Transforming Home is transforming

I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since my last post.

I don't think I have ever gone that long between posts.

My blogging motivation is pretty much completely gone.

So what have I been doing with my time (besides working, taking care of the kids, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.)?

Well, some of this:and this:
trying to get my body into summer mode.

We finally broke down and bought one of these:

Honda Odyssey

Can you believe we have been putting all 3 boys into the back seat of our Accord for the last 3 years? I was not all that thrilled about buying a minivan, but I have to say it is really nice, roomy, and the kids completely love it. So it was a good choice (and I promise to never, ever wear mom jeans. ever.).

I have made some changes to the dining room, TV room, and kitchen. I am always making changes - that is what is so much fun about decorating, right? And I am proud to say I haven't spent a dime.

So what is up with the blogging?

I don't know - all the other things are just becoming more important now. The time I used to spend blogging (in the mornings while the kids are all in school) I now spend at the YMCA doing yoga or step aerobics. And I am feeling great.

I no longer spend 2-3 hours a day sitting at the computer. I spend less than 1 hour, and I am very happy about that.

I am becoming more and more conscious about the choices I am making, and spending a lot of my time at the computer just doesn't seem right anymore.

I need to be outside.

I need to exercise.

I need to meditate and visualize.

I need to read more.

The yoga is incredible - I have tried it many times in my life and never really got into it. But this time I am in love. I guess I am finally in the right place to accept and enjoy it.

So there you have it.

I hope you all don't mind.

I will post some updated house pictures this week. I think I am ready to paint the kitchen island.

How is your blogging going? By the way, do you yoga?

  1. My favorite quote is, "Life is not about finding yourself. It is about creating yourself." Lots of reflection and changes happening here, too. Such an inspiring post, Danielle!

  2. That is great Danielle. I took a little break this past winter for similar reasons. Family and health are pretty big priorities, as they should be. You might know that I write a fitness blog too so I can relate to where you are coming from. Whenever you post, I'll be there to read, but I think your priorities are well placed.

  3. that is great you are feeling so well! I really want to get in shape. I was doing yoga at home and love love love it! But I don't seem to have any time. I am also not blogging as much. Must be the weather. I want to be outside as much as I can! I wish I could focus on myself...right now all I seem to be doing is sitting in front of the tv! augh!

  4. We all need to strive for balance. Your health, physically and mentally, is most important. Then you have energy to have relationships and experiences to share. Surely, a blog shouldn't be a dutiful obligation. I say, "LIVE!"

  6. Good for you, for taking some time out to take care of yourself as well.

No yoga for me, but I belong to a local gym and go several days a week. Treadmill/elliptical and weights. I used to do spin classes at the old gym but need to work up to it again since we changed. I try to always make it 4 days a week, even with the work, family etc. My sister and bil and several work friends are also members, which helps motivate me to go when I don't feel like it.

I watch very very little tv, so computer time is in place of tv time. We also have our computer right in our family room, the center of activity around here. I have seen the 'blogging without obligation' button on blogs and sort of adopted that mentality. I blog when I have time or when I feel like it. Still, I wish I spent less time online. I tend to comment alot and could probably cut back a bit.

A great post, very thought provoking. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Good for you, girl!

No yoga here, but I do try and walk in the mornings after bringing my son to school. Now if it would consistently stop raining...

  8. I think that sounds like great choices!! Much better than sitting on the computer all day!! I have to tell you - our car went into the shop a couple years ago and the only thing the rental car company had was a minivan. I did NOT want to drive it but had no choice. After 3 days I LOVED it!! All the gadgets and extras on the inside were great! I'm so bad though I'd get in it and have to convince myself that the outside look like a different car!! ;) Thank goodness your not sportin' Mom jeans! ;)

  9. I never have been a faithful blogger. I only blog when the mood hits. But I love reading them. I do it late at night and I do it mid-day but I try not let it interfere with everyday life. We just bought a new home so I have been doing what most ladies LOVE decorating and nesting.I love Home!I enjoy your blog I will wait for you on the dashboard!

  10. Good on you Danielle, for looking after you! Blogging can wait!

    Take care and best wishes,

  11. I need your motivation! Good for you. I love blogging, but have to be careful to not let it take over. Take care of yourself!

Blogging is going good for me right now. I've just partnered with Frugal Little Thing to do a weekly post about fitness/health. That's a big step for me.

  13. Good for you! Though it's great to hear from you too! Blogging is way easier (addictive) during the months when we're "trapped" inside...and now there is SO much more to do!

There's certainly never a shortage of cleaning to do around here, but I somehow don't mind during the warmer weather months- I love hanging clothes out on the line while Isabelle plays in the yard!! It takes so much longer, but it's so worth it to me. I also enjoy taking Isabelle for long walks every morning, jumping around and playing with the kids after school- just being, having fun.

Blogs can wait...life cannot! Have a great day!

  14. Hi Danielle,
I am exactly in the same place.
In fact I found your blog because Amy mentioned me in the same post she mentions you.
I am more excited about the work there is to do-rather than writing about the work.
    Enjoyed this post very much,

  15. Good for you. And yes, I do yoga at least once a week. Ohmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

  16. I think that's wonderful! I was reading Amy's blog who mentioned you so that's how I wound up here.

I decided a while ago just to blog when the muse strikes me. Sometimes I post a few times a week and sometimes I post more. I don't feel guilty anymore about the blog visits, linky parties etc. I was spending way too much time on this blog thing and like you I'd rather be outside, I needed to get back into exercise, want to do other things with my days besides sit in front of a computer.

I don't yoga but my husand does and he loves it! I have a yoga dvd that I like that I try to incorporate a few times a month.

  17. So nice to hear from you ☺! As much as the bloggy world loves you, alway remember to do what feels right! Even if that means buying a mini van (my kids would LOVE to have one). I think I need to do more yoga ~ lately I've been running, spinning and lifting weights. Amazing what a little exercise can do for the mood!

  19. Danielle, so glad I popped onto your blog today! I have been in a similar mood lately about blogging and just posted about that on my own blog just now! (well, before I came here to read yours). Technically I'm supposed to be on a self-proclaimed online diet (that is to mean only checking emails and not cruising all sorts of things on the internet). But here I am on yours. But I found it so inspiring and wanted to let you know I am right there with you. BTW, I LOVE my minivan and I don't care what people say about it. Actually, I had someone tell me I had the 'coolest ride in the neighborhood'. She had minivan envy. :-) Oh! And I do yoga too--have for about six years now and it makes me feel SO good. That and pilates and walking the dog--great exercise. Now's the time of year to be out doing all that so enjoy it all and don't worry about the blogging!

  20. The good thing about blogging less often is... you help all your readers spend less time at their computers too. Way to spread the extra time around. Summmer and blogging don't work together as well as Winter and blogging. :) Good for your for exercising!

  21. I completely understand what you are saying. I just started blogging about 6 months ago and you can easily sit in the chair for hours on end.

You are doing what you need to do for you. We do have to live our lives don't we?

  22. I went for a month in April without posting, because I was so busy! I felt bad about neglecting my blog, but there is just so much other stuff to do! Especially when the weather is so nice and you just want to be outside all the time. At least you know other bloggers go through the same thing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't feel bad, we all go through blog burn out and nice weather is always one reason why so many of neglect our blogs and visiting each other. Real life, going out and living it will always be more important than your online life. And if it's isn't they something is really wrong. Besides getting exercise is always better than sitting around.

  24. I'm in the same boat. We went on holidays and it's now been 2 months since I posted. I've only had the blog for 10 months or so, so that's a pretty big lapse. Work has been insane. The kids have been crazy busy. It's so much nicer outside. I just haven't been inspired to do house projects or to post abou them. (The death of my camera likely didn't help either...)

I figure, if blogging is right for us, the desire will come back around again. If it helps, I do really enjoy your blog & pop by on a regular basis. :) As for yoga - I'm interested but have the guts to try it out in front of anyone. Rather silly hey?

Take care of you & thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one - Jaime

  25. I hope that you are enjoying your time away. :)
I used to do Yoga and I liked it a lot.
The instructor said that I was too "fidgity" though. Jerk. :P

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello! :)
